Edgewood, KY – St. Elizabeth Healthcare and Gateway Community & Technical College have partnered to support a paramedic program for the community. This partnership will allow paramedic educators to develop curriculum that will help to streamline healthcare provided during the crucial pre-hospital time period.
Education and training will remain onsite at Gateway while educators for the program will become employees of St. Elizabeth. Curriculum will be revised to target a spring semester start date in January 2019. Consideration to shift friendly classes will be explored in the future. The existing paramedic program at Gateway will undergo some changes during the partnership.
“Local firehouses and EMS agencies are the first responders when emergency care is needed, and any opportunity to equip them with the most advanced training and educational opportunities is paramount to our community,” says Gary Blank, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. “This partnership will allow us to ensure we continue to develop paramedic educators well into the future as well as further streamline the care continuum from pre-hospital to hospital.”
An Open House and Express Enrollment event will occur at Gateway’s Edgewood Campus on October 18 at 4 p.m. to launch the new agreement and enroll future paramedics. Learn more about Gateway’s paramedic program here.
"We are excited to expand our partnership with St. Elizabeth to include this paramedic program support," said Dr. Fernando Figueroa, Gateway President. "Thanks to St. Elizabeth, the Gateway team and other industry partners for their hard work in making this partnership possible."
