St. Elizabeth Receives Perinatal Care Certification from The Joint Commission

The certification program recognizes Joint Commission accredited hospitals committed to achieving integrated, coordinated and patient-centered care for mothers and their newborns. This helps to improve infant prematurity and mortality rates and also reduces maternal complications. 

Established in 2015, Perinatal Care Certification is awarded for a two-year period to Joint Commission-accredited hospitals. For more information on this certification, please click here.

The Family Birth Place at St. Elizabeth Edgewood features 33 newly renovated state-of-the-art Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum suites, a six bed recovery unit, six private triage rooms, four surgical suites and an eight bed prenatal area.

Congenital Heart Disease Screenings

St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s Family Birth Place screens all newborns for Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). CHD is the most common birth defect in newborns consisting of an abnormal structure to the heart, which creates an abnormal blood flow pattern. The New Maternal Fetal Center is located on the third floor at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. The new center offers an ultrasound procedure room, six ultrasound rooms, five non-stress test beds, two rooms dedicated to the Diabetes Program, two large dedicated rooms to the Genetic Counseling Program, and many other amenities in one comfortable soothing location.

Public tours of the enhanced St. Elizabeth Edgewood Family Birth Place are offered one Sunday each month. To register for a tour, call (859) 301-2229 (BABY).
