Have you gotten used to the time change? You may have, but your kids may still be adjusting. And, with all that Halloween candy around your house, sugar may also be interfering with a good night’s sleep.
If you’re struggling to get your kids back to a regular sleep schedule, here are a few helpful tips from Huffington Post:
- Monitor what your child eats before bed. Dark chocolate and soda are loaded with caffeine, which can keep your little one awake. If you know how your child will react to an increase in sugar, you can decide when to cut off the candy for the night.
- Shift your kid’s bedtime to a little earlier each night. If he normally goes to bed at 8 p.m., he may start crashing at 7 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. bedtime could help him ease into a new schedule.
- Keep to the same bedtime routine. The order in which your child gets ready for bed (change into pajamas, brush teeth and read a story) and the amount of time spent are important as she relaxes and mentally prepares for bed.
- Scary movies, books or games can affect sleep. Try asking your child what he wants to dream about to get him thinking about something positive.
