St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital Designated High Performing for Orthopaedics by U.S. News & World Report
High-quality care, positive patient experiences and successful surgical outcomes earned St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital a U.S. News & World Report ranking of “High Performing” in Orthopaedics. This designation makes Edgewood Hospital one of only 115 hospitals in the nation to receive this designation, puts it in the top 10% of hospitals nationwide and top two in the state of Kentucky.
The designation of “High Performing” is a reflection of St. Elizabeth Edgewood’s dedication to the highest level of quality orthopaedic care. “At St. Elizabeth Healthcare, we work every day to bring the best care close to home,” says Tony Hyott, Assistant Vice President of Orthopaedics and Neurosciences. “Being recognized this year as a “High Performing” hospital brings the greatest satisfaction, especially in the face of incredible pandemic challenges our patients and providers faced. We are relentless in our efforts to bring the safest, most appropriate care to those we serve and to be placed among the best in the nation and one of the top two programs in Kentucky gives us great pride,” says Hyott.

St. Elizabeth’s Shoulder and Orthopaedic Spine Surgery Programs Awarded Gold Seal of Quality by Joint Commission
Continuous compliance with high performance standards earned the Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal of Approval® for both orthopaedic spine surgery and shoulder replacement surgery. The Gold Seal awarded to each symbolizes St. Elizabeth’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality orthopaedic care.
The designations are a first for St. Elizabeth and the surgical programs based out of our Florence facility. It is a testament to the high quality of care delivered daily by every member of our orthopaedic team, including our partner physicians at OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
To achieve Advanced Gold Seal status, St. Elizabeth Florence successfully participated in an unannounced site review from a team of Joint Commission officials during which reviewers analyzed the quality, safety and level of care provided.
Officials found St. Elizabeth Florence excelled at:

- Improving efficiency and patient outcomes
- Encouraging collaboration between specialties
- Overcoming challenges to care
- Promoting a culture of excellence
These designations add two more awards over 2020 and 2021 for the St. Elizabeth Healthcare orthopaedics program, after the Edgewood hospital earned the “High Performing” designation for orthopaedics from U.S. News & World Report.
