The chance to inspire others to learn more, do more and become more is what drove Lisa Volpenhein to the nursing profession.
Volpenhein began her career at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in 2005 as a nursing assistant and quickly progressed to professional nursing in 2009. She currently works in medical and surgical intensive care at St. Elizabeth Edgewood as a charge nurse and has become a sought-after resource for her colleagues.
Her passion and respect for the profession are what drive her to be a continuous learner and serve in multiple leadership roles across the health care system.
Recently, Volpenhein graduated from the Frontline Leadership Program where she drove improvements to St. Elizabeth’s clinical institute withdraw assessment (CIWA) by providing more timely identification for interventions, precise treatment and rehabilitation measures.
She also serves as chair for the Clinical Practice Council where she determines best practices for patient care and services and promotes a positive work environment for professional nurses.
In her personal life, Volpenhein volunteers at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newport by delivering free nursing care to low-income residents. She offers blood pressure and blood sugar screenings; assessments of the heart and lungs; counseling on medications, chronic disease and additions; and often accompanies patients to physician visits or clinics.
Whether in her professional or personal life, Volpenhein uses her passion to inspire others to create a better community.
Happy Nurses Week, Lisa.
