You may be thinking November-December is a lost cause when it comes to diet and exercise.
I’ll just start in 2016 – I’ll make a New Years resolution after the holidays, you think.
Well, instead of succumbing to the leftover Halloween candy, chocolate Santas, holiday ham and sweet potatoes with little marshmallows floating in butter, we are here to motivate you.
According to the Washington Post, fitness experts say now is actually a great time to refresh a fitness routine you may already have or start a completely new one.
As you head into the holiday season and all that it entails – office parties, family get-togethers, cocktail parties, etc. – starting a new, interesting fitness class or maintaining the healthy habits you already have may keep you from over-indulging during the holidays.
Typically, people join a gym or fitness class in January as they vow to make exercise a priority with the start of a new year. And, unfortunately, many of these same “resolution-ers” fall off the wagon within a month or two. But, if these people started now, they would already have healthy habits in place, and can avoid beating themselves up over that slice of pumpkin pie.
Having and keeping a healthy lifestyle is more realistic when it is a habitual exercise, rather than a brand-new idea come January. The same idea can be applied to “moderation.”
If you already have healthy habits in place, now is a great time to start a new class to keep yourself interested and motivated or ask a new workout partner to join you. The extra challenge will help you get through the holiday season. Good luck fending off those delicious Christmas cookies!
