It’s a never-ending struggle ““ you want to get in shape, but the gym membership is just too expensive. Rather than being forced to decide between your fitness and your financial well-being, try these low to no cost exercise options.
Lunken Airport Playfield ““ Watch planes take off and land around you while you walk, run, bike or blade the five-mile Lunken Airport Playfield loop. Most of the loop is flat, but be ready for one hill that will leave you breathless by the time you reach the top. The loop is a good option for someone just starting to get in shape or seasoned runners.
It is also the perfect place for an afternoon of family fun. Take the little ones to play in two large play areas, hit balls at the driving range or dust off your batting skills on one of several baseball diamonds.
Trying to exercise in the winter? You’re in luck. The loop will be cleared and salted during the winter months, too.
Running Clubs ““ Whether you’re training for a 5k, half marathon or full marathon, you can find the right running club for you. Bob Ronckers and Tri-State Running Company offer structured programs to help you train for specific races, or you can join groups like the Runners Club of Greater Cincinnati who meet weekly to enjoy each other’s company while running through Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. So, spiff up those running shoes, throw on your favorite workout gear and hit the pavement.
Washington Park ““ With a variety of free fitness classes offered multiple nights a week, Washington Park can be your summer workout destination. Sitting on the lawn right in front of Music Hall, you will have a picturesque view while you make friends with the other people joining the workout.
Classes are offered on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings April through October – weather permitting ““ and are taught by Cincinnati’s best instructors. Classes include yoga, boot camp, dance fitness and kick boxing. Visit the Washington Park website for more details.
Sunday Yoga at 21c – Stretch your chi and your muscles surrounded by beautiful works of art at the 21c Museum yoga series. Every Sunday, certified yoga teachers will lead sessions to stretch your body and mind. Bring a yoga mat, water and $5 for the class fee. Make sure you arrive early ““ space is limited for this fun experience.
