The weather’s turning cooler, and the running’s getting better. Even the most avid runners don’t like to sweat it out in the summer humidity. Every year, more comfortable autumn weather brings a boom of sponsored runs in the Tri-State, some of which let you enjoy a good run while supporting important causes
A look at some of the options in the coming weeks:
- The all-age event to raise money for colon cancer charities will be Saturday, October 3 at Lunken Airport. Participants, who receive a pair of boxer shorts, are encouraged to run in underwear-themed outfits.
- This fun 5K, which will be on October 10, is all about helping disabled children and adults. The group, out of northern Kentucky, hopes communities will come together to make a difference. The annual race, which is at Turfway Park, will also have food and entertainment.
Warrior Run: The Race for Life
- The annual run to celebrate the life of Mariemont sports stalwart, Jim Miller, and to raise money for suicide awareness, will be Saturday, October 10. The 5k run and one-mile walk starts at Bell Tower Park in Mariemont.
Explore the Mud Obstacle Course and 5k
- This race is Saturday, October 10 at the Northern Kentucky Fairgrounds in Williamstown. A “tough mudder”-like event, the mud run begins with a 40-foot slide into the mud and continues with around 20 obstacles guaranteed to get dirty.
Queen City Foundation 5K Challenge
- The challenge doesn’t stop at crossing the finish line – we know, that sounds like the tough part! Each of the seven participating Foundation schools will be competing for signups and the winner will receive a special awards ceremony as well as a scholarship. The Queen City Foundation will be using all proceeds from the race for their scholarship programs and additional activities for Foundation kids.
Walk Ahead for A Brain Tumor Cure
- The 6th annual Walk Ahead for a Brain Tumor Cure 5K Walk/Run will take place on Sunday, October 25 at Sawyer Point Park. Survivors, families of survivors and others are encouraged to walk or run to help find a cure.
