With a week full of cool weather and the kids heading back to school, it’s starting to become clear that summer is almost finished.
For many parks, pools and other outdoor facilities, Labor Day is the unofficial closing day, which means you have about two more weeks to squeeze in everything on our list!
Kings Island
While Kings Island doesn’t close for the winter until November 1, the park is closed September 11-12 and 19-20 for private events, which means your opportunities to drive up to the amusement park are dwindling fast.
Coney Island
Getting to Coney Island before the cold weather sets in is a must! The park’s last operating day is Monday, September 7. Head out to the Sunlite Pool to catch a few more rays then cool off on one of the park’s four water slides or eight water chutes.
Cincinnati Recreation Commission Pools and Aquatic Centers
You can check out specific schedules for the pool nearest you, but many outdoor pools drained their water when their lifeguards headed back to school. However, several splash grounds remain open through early September, weather permitting. You could spend an entire Saturday driving to all eight locations, as well as the one near Smale Riverfront Park.
The Cincinnati Zoo
The zoo’s hours change to 10 a.m. ““ 5 p.m. on September 8. These hours will remain until November 19, and the PNC Festival of Lights begins on November 20.
Fountain Square
The square’s Reggae Wednesdays end on Wednesday, September 3, the Midpoint Indie Summer will host its last showcase on Thursday, September 4, and the Summer Sampler series will host its last live concert on Friday, September 5. Stay tuned for Bengals tailgates at the square once the NFL season begins.
Baseball
The Florence Freedom’s last home game is on Thursday, September 3. The Cincinnati Reds will play into October.
Kentucky State Parks
Though the parks will remain – partially – open throughout the winter months with special programming, there’s something special about getting out in nature during the warm summer and cooler fall months. At Big Bone Lick State Park, the last weekly recreation opportunity is September 7.
Instagram Hydration Station
If you haven’t visited the station on the Purple People Bridge yet, now is the time. The machine “vends” water at the cost of one Instagram photo and will continue to do so through September.
