Lots of Tri-State teens are checking items off their dorm packing list and boxing up their clothes, photos, books and decorations, all in preparation for their first year away from home at college.
If you are looking for a little extra parental wisdom to impart before your student moves into the dorm, The New York Times has a few honest tips to help your teen – and you – survive freshman year.
Here are a couple of our favorite pieces of advice:
- Get to your dorm room as early as possible. You are going to be living there for a year and you do not want a bad spot.
- “Cheese is not a salad” should be your mantra to avoid the freshmen 15 (which is actually only about two to three pounds, and not exclusive to college students).
