We’ve now had about a week to think of and read about 2015 resolutions. Readers of the Cincinnati Enquirer saw several great articles written this week about resolutions. Most of us have (at least) made mental notes of ways to improve ourselves and our lives. Many others have written their goals down or posted them somewhere highly visible in an effort to stick with them.
What are some of yours? Eat right? Lose weight? Maybe you decided to avoid the diet and gym membership this year. Instead, you’re going to read more or get organized.
These are all great goals, and some of you may even stick with them. You are the ones who will be greatly satisfied in a few months or in 2016 when you look back on the things you’ve accomplished this year.
For the rest of us, the Cincinnati Enquirer has some great tips for making “smart things to do” instead:
- Don’t quit after you’ve failed or put too much pressure on yourself to succeed.
- Don’t choose goals that are purposely overwhelming.
- Do make smaller lists ““ don’t choose 15 goals to try all at once.
- Do make work-related goals to improve your day-to-day life, not just exercising and dieting.
If you still insist on signing up for that gym membership, do your homework to make sure you are getting the best deal. Billing issues, as well as cancellations and refunds, are the biggest complaints facing gyms. And according to another article from the Enquirer, those rates have nearly doubled since 2013.
Maybe the issue is not the price, but rather your motivation is lacking. Find ways to keep yourself accountable, such as signing up for a specific class or hiring a personal trainer. If you’ve never hired one, be sure to check out these myths before doing so.
The best way to stick to your resolutions is to have fun and keep your goals attainable. The people who often stop going to the gym are the same ones who try going six days a week from the get-go. Take it slowly, reward yourself when you reach the next objective and don’t quit completely if you do miss one day.
It’s not too late to make a couple of goals that will help you live a better life. What are your resolutions this year? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter.
