Childbirth can be a magical event. It can also be overwhelming and stressful. For first-time and veteran moms, compassionate, knowledgeable support and personalized care with an individualized birth plan, ensure that every birth experience is both unforgettable and positive.
That’s why Markie and Angelica delivered their babies at St. Elizabeth Family Birth Place. From conversations with friends and loved ones, they knew it would provide a warm, welcoming environment. They were confident in The Family Birth Place’s commitment to putting mother and baby first.
“Everyone I know delivered their babies at St. Elizabeth, and I’d heard good things about it,” Markie says. “To sum up my labor and delivery all into one word — I would say it was beautiful.”
Compassionate, Expert Labor and Delivery Care That Feels Like Family
Helping a mother bring a new life into the world requires a high level of skill. That’s why specially trained doctors and nurses work with every laboring mom at St. Elizabeth to deliver personalized care. They have the experience to handle routine and more complicated births like Angelica’s.
Because she had pre-eclampsia, high blood pressure caused by pregnancy, Angelica and her care team decided together that inducing labor was the safest option. At first, Angelica says she felt nervous and overwhelmed, but her care team put her at ease.
“I went in knowing that whatever my body needed, whatever my baby needed, my care team would be there to guide and support me,” she says. “They were so kind, and you can feel the level of experience in all the team members. Nothing was a surprise, and I knew I was in good hands.”
It was that combination of advanced knowledge and caring attentiveness that gave Markie the sense that she was surrounded by family. She appreciated the collaborative approach and emotional support that helped her stay focused and emotionally present for the birth of her second child, Ariah.
“My nurse midwife, Amanda Parker, CNM, DNP, was so calm and welcoming,” says Markie. “I could just be in the moment,” she says. “I almost felt like I was at home. My mom wasn’t there, but Amanda made it seem like she was.”
Personalized Labor and Delivery with Unmatched Support
Markie and Angelica received the highest level of medical care during their birthing experiences. But the attention they received from St. Elizabeth nurses at The Family Birth Place included more than monitoring their progress through labor. The nurses also focused on their needs and provided patient-centered care in labor and delivery that went beyond expectations.
“The nurses went above and beyond for me. When my water broke, I was wearing socks, and the fluid got all over me,” Angelica says. “The nurses took my socks off, washed them and then hung them to dry. “I didn’t think that they would ever do something like that.”
Markie agrees, noting her nurses were there at every turn to deliver prompt care for her and her baby.
“The staff was amazing,” Markie says. “Someone was always checking on me and Ariah, making sure we had everything we needed.”
Ultimately, she says, expecting parents can be confident that their voices and needs are at the center of their individualized birth plan when they choose to have their baby at St. Elizabeth.
“You can tell the nurses don’t just treat it as their job,” she says. “They truly care for you and make you feel like family.”
