Well, we’re halfway through the first month of 2015. Have you started your resolution to start running, yet?
Whether you have or are waiting until a warmer day, we discovered some great tips that could help you learn to love running.
Do you ever watch marathons and wonder:
- How do those athletes keep going?
- Aren’t they crazy for wanting to put their bodies through that kind of misery?
It is, after all, 26.2 miles. But running can be fun and challenging ““ and long distances can do wonders for you physically and mentally.
Are you ready to stick to that resolution? You can check out the full list of tips here, but we’ve pulled out a few of our favorites:
- Be OK with being a newbie. No one can run 10 miles on day one, especially after spending months (or years) on the couch. Start with a modest distance. It’s OK if you don’t go very far; you will get better, so just keep going.
- Run with a buddy. On days when internal motivation just won’t come, having motivation on the outside (in the form of a sneaker-clad pal) will keep you on track. It’s easier to hold yourself accountable when you have another voice pushing you; it’s also more fun.
- Keep track of your mileage. Not only will this help you see how far you’ve gone in one run, it will also help you look back after weeks of work to see where you started and how far you have come.
The best way to stick to any resolution is to set realistic goals and reward yourself when you reach them. Let us know what your resolutions are and how you plan to achieve them on Facebook.
