Overview

Reactive arthritis is joint pain and swelling triggered by an infection in another part of the body. Most often, the infection is in the intestines, genitals or urinary tract.

Symptoms

Symptoms include joint pain and stiffness, most commonly in the knees, ankles and feet. Eye inflammation and increased frequency or discomfort during urination also may occur.

Treatments

If needed, treatment may include physical therapy and medicine, including anti-inflammatories or corticosteroids.
