A pilonidal cyst is an unusual pocket in the skin that contains hair and skin debris. The cyst is almost always near the tailbone at the top of the buttocks.

Symptoms

Symptoms of an infected pilonidal cyst include pain, inflamed skin, and leaking pus or blood.

Treatments

Treatment involves making a small cut to drain the cyst. If the cyst returns, surgery may be needed.
