Loss of liver function.

Overview

Liver failure can happen quickly, called acute. Or it can happen over time, called chronic. Causes include a reaction to medicine, high doses of acetaminophen, hepatitis infection, alcohol misuse and liver disease.

Symptoms

Yellowed skin and eyes, belly pain, and swelling are some symptoms.

Treatments

Treatments include medicines, dietary changes or possibly a liver transplant.
