A hypertensive emergency is a severe increase in blood pressure that damages the eyes, brain, kidneys, and heart.

Symptoms

Symptoms include severe chest pain, severe headache with confusion and blurred vision, nausea, and shortness of breath.

Treatments

Treatment may include hospitalization and oral or intravenous medications.
