St. Elizabeth Healthcare celebrates the four-year anniversary of its comprehensive cancer center opening with the largest donation in the system’s history. The Yung Family Foundation has donated $10 million to the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center to promote access to quality care in the Northern Kentucky region where the Yung family started their company and make their home.
Since its inception, the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center has provided personalized cancer care through precision medicine and genomic health, education screening and prevention, clinical research, and advanced innovative technology. In recognition of the generous donation, the Cancer Center has been renamed The Yung Family Cancer Center.
“My mother always pushed me to do things for myself—to work for myself, to spend money to make money,” said Bill Yung. “That advice has been key to my business success, which is why I’m honored to support the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center. My hope is that this donation will help attract even more top physicians and researchers while enhancing access to elite cancer care, right here in the community we call home. Our goal is to make the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center one of the top 50 cancer centers in the country. I’m confident with Dr. Flora’s leadership that this goal is achievable.” Kentucky faces the highest rates of overall cancer incidence and death in the United States. The Commonwealth also leads the nation in lung cancer incidence and death and colorectal cancer incidence. With the ability to treat nearly 500 patients in a day, St. Elizabeth offers a unique approach to care, ensuring all patient needs are met at one location.
“At St. Elizabeth, patients are our number one priority,” says Garren Colvin, President and CEO of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. “This partnership fuels the innovation and compassionate care that our entire region depends on, ensuring that every patient has access to the most meaningful, cutting-edge treatments. Together, we are rewriting the future of cancer care in our region.”
Experiencing cancer can be a difficult time for patients and their families. St. Elizabeth provides each patient with comprehensive, holistic care to achieve excellence as measured by both clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. Cancers treated include: blood/hematologic, brain & spine, breast, digestive/gastrointestinal, genitourinary (reproductive system), gynecologic, head & neck, lung, skin and thoracic.
“We are deeply grateful for the Yung Family Foundation’s generosity,” says Dr. Doug Flora, Executive Medical Director Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth. “Their support allows us to not only advance the frontiers of cancer care, but also to offer hope where there was once none. As Siddhartha Mukherjee wrote, ‘the cancer landscape has been radically reshaped by philanthropic investment. Private donations fuel the most daring scientific discoveries.’ This generous support from the Yung Family helps us bring hope and cutting-edge treatment to every patient, allowing us to dream of a world where cancer is no longer feared, but understood and conquered.”
