Non-Surgical Treatment Options
Only a provider who specializes in back pain can create a treatment plan that’s right for you. Your plan will consider the source of your back pain, your medical history, past treatment and goals for current treatment.
For most people, non-surgical spine treatments provide relief, and you have a variety of options. Our team of spine specialists works together to personalize treatment for you. Common treatment recommendations include:
- Back bracing. For some conditions, wearing a back brace may provide support and help lessen your pain.
- Epidural steroid injections. Injecting anti-inflammatory medications around spinal nerves may calm pain caused by certain spine conditions.
- Physical therapy. Physical therapy includes stretches and exercises designed to strengthen your back. A physical therapist can also teach you how to modify everyday activities so you have less discomfort.
- Rest and healing. Rest – in small doses – may also be helpful. You want to avoid activities that aggravate your symptoms. However, you don’t want to spend more than a day or two in bed. It’s important to get moving again as soon as you can.
Spine Surgery
Spine surgery may be the best option for some conditions causing back pain. But we don’t usually recommend surgery unless other treatments aren’t effective.
Surgeons have expertise in all types of spinal surgery, including spinal fusion and disk replacement.
As leaders in their fields, our team offer the latest techniques, including minimally invasive procedures, which are easier on you and provide a quicker recovery than traditional open procedures. Plus, our experts use advanced technology, such as the Medtronic O-Arm™ Imaging System and Mazor X™, a surgical guidance system. Everything we do focuses on helping you get the best results.
