Very early on, my parents instilled in me a passion to always use the Golden Rule every day with respect not just to humans, but to all things in nature. Despite all the divisiveness and rancor around us these days, volunteering at St. Elizabeth only strengthens my resolve to stick to The Rule. There are days when tears come to my eyes when I see and feel the pain, fear, and anguish some patients are enduring. And there are days when my spirits are lifted when I see and feel the hope, relief and calm some patients experience when given even a little care, kindness, and compassion.

I am not looking for any pats on the back. I take comfort in knowing my parents are happy when they look down and see that I have stuck with their wise advice. And I feel blessed to be in the company of so many others who have also taken The Rule to heart.
