Vasculitis
Updated: 2025-02-01
Description
A swelling of the blood vessels that causes changes in the blood vessel walls.
Overview
Vasculitis is swelling and irritation, also called inflammation, of the blood vessels. The swelling can cause vessel walls to thicken and narrow. This cuts off blood supply to tissues and organs. The condition can be short-term or long lasting.
Symptoms
Symptoms include fever, fatigue, weight loss, and muscle and joint pain.
Treatments
Some forms of vasculitis get better on their own. Others need treatment with medicines to control the inflammation and prevent flares.
