Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also called broken heart syndrome, is a heart condition that may feel like a heart attack. It's usually temporary. But some people may still feel unwell after the heart is healed. The condition is often brought on by stress and extreme emotions. It also can be triggered by a serious physical illness or surgery.

Symptoms

Symptoms of broken heart syndrome can seem like those of a heart attack. Symptoms include chest pain and shortness of breath.

Treatments

Treatment is similar to heart attack care until the correct diagnosis is clear. Medicines may be given to reduce any strain on the heart.
