Lipoma

Updated: 2023-11-07

Description

A fatty lump most often between the skin and muscle.

Overview

A lipoma is a slow-growing, fatty lump. It isn't cancer and usually is harmless. Some people have more than one.

Symptoms

A lipoma is just under the skin and moves easily under finger pressure. They often occur in the neck, shoulders, back, abdomen, arms, and thighs.

Treatments

Treatment often isn't needed. A lipoma can be removed with surgery if it's causing problems, is painful, or is growing.
