Overview

Dermatographic urticaria is a condition in which scratching the skin causes raised, hive-like lines. It's also called skin writing and dermatographism.

Symptoms

The condition may cause itchiness. Lines usually vanish within 30 minutes but can last several hours to days.

Treatments

If the condition is bothersome, a mild antihistamine medicine taken by mouth may provide relief.
