Self-care measures include applying a cold compress to the eye area immediately after injury and applying warm compresses in a few days when swelling has stabilized.
When to seek immediate medical care
See a doctor immediately if:
- Vision problems, such as double vision or blurring
- Severe pain
- Bruising around both eyes
- Bleeding in an eye or from the nose
