News Room: St. Elizabeth Receives Dual Recognition this Week from Thomson Reuters and U.S. News & World Report

Recognition demonstrates sustained, outstanding clinical performance, measurable commitment to quality and medical specialties.

Edgewood, KY—St. Elizabeth Healthcare was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the quality and cost of healthcare. The award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction, financial performance and operational efficiency. This is the sixth time St. Elizabeth has been recognized with this honor and the fifth year in a row.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare has also been listed in U.S. News & World Report's first-ever Best Hospitals metro area rankings. To be listed in this regional report, St. Elizabeth Healthcare scored in the top 25 percent among its peers in 10 medical specialties including Diabetes and Endocrinology; Ear, Nose and Throat; Gastroenterology; Geriatrics; Gynecology; Heart and Heart Surgery; Kidney Disorders; Neurology and Neurosurgery; Orthopedics; and Pulmonology.

“I congratulate all the associates at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, who are dedicated to constantly improving the care they provide through their knowledge, compassion and commitment to the people of this region,” said John S. Dubis, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. “What makes our achievements important to our patients is that this demonstrates a measurable commitment to quality and finds that the care provided by our organization is consistently among the very best in the region and the country.”

Recently, St. Elizabeth was also named to the HealthGrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals list for the fifth time. St. Elizabeth is one of only three hospitals in the United States to be named one of America’s 50 Best, a 100 Top Hospital and hold Magnet ™ status for excellence in nursing care. Each achievement focuses on different areas, with the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospital study looking at a range of benchmarks.

Winners of the 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Reuters were identified through an in-depth analysis, the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks study. The study evaluated 2,926 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in 10 areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, patient satisfaction, adherence to clinical standards of care, and post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and pneumonia.

“The 100 Top Hospitals winners raised the bar again this year, delivering a higher level of reliable care and greater value for their communities,” said Jean Chenoweth, Senior Vice President for performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs at Thomson Reuters. More information on this study and other 100 Top Hospitals research is available at www.100tophospitals.com.

U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals metro area rankings recognized 622 hospitals in or near major cities with a record of high performance in key medical specialties, including 132 of the 152 hospitals already identified as the best in the nation. U.S. News created Best Hospitals more than 20 years ago to identify hospitals exceptionally skilled in handling the most difficult cases, such as brain tumors typically considered inoperable and delicate pancreatic procedures.

“All of these hospitals provide first-rate care for the majority of patients, even those with serious conditions or who need demanding procedures,” says Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “The new Best Hospitals metro rankings can tell you which hospitals are worth considering for most medical problems if you live in or near a major metro area.” For the full list of metro area rankings visit www.usnews.com/hospitals.
