Spirometry measures how much air you can breathe in and out. This test can be very important to help assess Lung Conditions such as: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Asthma Pulmonary Fibrosis Spirometry also measures other lung volumes that might include other gases. These are important for patients that have COPD. There are three common methods for measuring lung volumes. These methods include: Nitrogen Washout Helium Dilution Body Box (this method is often referred to as a “phone booth” where the patient sits in a chair. This is the most common and accurate way of measuring lung volumes.)
