Whether you plan to go to one of these events or host your own fireworks party, remember to talk to your kids about fireworks safety. You can also report illegal fireworks and download materials to promote fireworks safety in your community at the National Council on Fireworks Safety. Here are some basic tips for your family:
- Obey the law and read the label of any fireworks you purchase to ensure proper handling.
- Never give fireworks to a child.
- Wear safety goggles and keep a bucket of water and hose nearby.
- Only light one firework at a time outside and back away – never turn your back on a lit firework.
