St. Elizabeth Cancer Care Center offers specialty clinics for certain disease types.
Gynecologic Oncology Clinics are staffed by renowned gynecologic oncology surgeons who specialize in diagnosis and management of cancers that affect the female reproductive system.
Gynecologic oncology surgeons are skilled surgeons, capable of performing a wide range of cancer operations using traditional methods, laser surgery, laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. Robotic surgery, which is offered at St. Elizabeth, allows for improved recovery time, fewer side effects, and less pain for surgery patients. These skilled specialists are also experts in prescribing the appropriate chemotherapy for female gynecologic malignancies. Studies on outcomes from gynecologic cancers demonstrate that women treated by gynecologic oncologists have a better likelihood of prolonged survival than those receiving care from non-specialists.
Gynecologic tumor conferences are held monthly to provide an avenue for discussing difficult and/or unusual cases. The conferences are chaired by the gynecologic oncologists and participation includes radiation therapists, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurse practitioner, research nurse, staff nurses, and tumor registry staff. Tumor conferences of this type allow an entire team of experts to discuss treatment plans and assure patients are receiving the best care possible.
The St. Elizabeth cancer program serves as an affiliate in the Gynecologic Oncology Group. The GOG — as it is called — is a national non-profit organization that promotes excellence in the scientific research of gynecological malignancies. We continue to enroll women in national research protocols involving cancer prevention and treatment. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care for women with gynecologic cancers.
The Neurological Oncology Clinic at St. Elizabeth is staffed by a neurological oncologist, a physician specializing in tumors of the brain and spinal cord. The neurological oncologist is an expert in prescribing and monitoring chemotherapy for these tumors. Patients suffering from neurological tumors receive one on one attention from the physician and staff for their complex problems. Multiple support staff is also available to help us assure all patient needs are addressed.
